Lady Cats Advance with Defeat of Mesquite Poteet; Texas High Wins; Mt Pleasant Lost to Lovejoy

The #14 ranked Lady Cats’ basketball team played a solid game to defeat Mesquite Poteet, 52-30 in a bi-district game Monday night at Emory Rains. Texas High defeated Highland Park and Mt Pleasant lost to Lovejoy in other play-off games of interest.

The key to the game was the second quarter as the Lady Cats outscored the Lady Pirates, 17-0. The Lady Cats began the quarter trailing 13-12 and ended it ahead by a score of 29-13 at the half. The Lady Cats padded their lead in the third and fourth quarters. Autumn Tanton got the Lady Cats going in the first half scoring 10 points by halftime. Kaylee Jefferson scored 12 second half points to keep the Lady Cats well out in front. Jefferson ended with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tanton finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sadavia Porter scored 10 points and handed out 7 assists. Imani Taylor scored all of her 7 points in the big Lady Cat second quarter. Danielle Godbolt hit a three point basket in the third quarter and had 3 points total.

The Lady Cats made 19 of 49 shots for 39%. They were only 2 of 9 from three point range for 22%. Taylor and Godbolt each had one three pointer. The Lady Cats were good at the free throw line making 12 of 16 for 75%. The Lady Cats grabbed 36 rebounds and had 14 assists. They turned the ball over only 13 times. The Lady Cats had 16 deflections and 8 steals. Jefferson had one blocked shot.

The Lady Cats improved their season record to 26-5. They will play Frisco Lone Star, the state’s #3 ranked team, who defeated Lake Dallas, 80-20 Monday night. Details of the second round Area game are TBA.
