Wildcats, Lady Cats Defeat Hallsville

Wildcats Basketball 48, Hallsville 33

The #8 ranked Wildcats’ basketball team completed the first half of district play unbeaten as they won at Hallsville, 48-33 Friday night. The Wildcats led 25-14 at the half and increased their lead to 40-22 after three quarters. Hallsville cut into the margin some in the fourth quarter but still came up 15 points short. Keaston Willis led the Wildcats with 16 points. Godsgift Ezedinma scored 12 points. Victor Iwuakor had 7 points. Dedric Godbolt scored 6 points. Michael Jefferson added 5 points and Xavier Cork had 2 points. Wildcats Coach Clark Cipoletta said the Wildcats played a great defensive game and executed really well against the Bobcats zone defense. He added the Wildcats stayed focused and played hard the entire night. The Wildcats are 6-0 in district play and their season record is now 23-3. They have won five games in a row. The Wildcats begin the second half of district play at Pine Tree Tuesday night. In their first meeting at home on December 19, the Wildcats won 70-50.

Lady Cats Basketball 80, Hallsville 28

The #9 ranked Lady Cats’ basketball team remained undefeated in district play as they rolled over Hallsville, 80-28 in Wildcats Gym Friday night. The Lady Cats got off to a strong start and led 20-6 after one quarter, The Lady Cats were up 35-12 at halftime. They led after three quarters 57-20. The Lady Cats averaged 20 points per quarter and yielded an average of 7 points per quarter. Sadavia Porter led the Lady Cats with 28 points including 2 three pointers. Kaylee Jefferson and Autumn Tanton had 18 points apiece. Imani Taylor scored 9 points including one three-point basket. Danielle Godbolt had 5 points and Jamia Hall scored 2 points. The Lady Cats hit 48% of their shots. They made 3 of 13 three-point shots for 23%. The Lady Cats hit 63% of their free throws making 19 of 30. The Lady Cats grabbed 28 rebounds including 17 offensive rebounds. Jefferson had 8 rebounds and Taylor had 5. The Lady Cats had 16 assists and Jefferson had a team leading 8. She also had a block. The Lady Cats made 12 turnovers. They also had 15 deflections and 26 steals. Tanton had a team high 8 steals. The Lady Cats are now 8-0 in district play and their season record is 22-3. The Lady Cats have won six games in a row. The Lady Cats play Pine Tree at home Tuesday night. In their first meeting in Pine Tree, the Lady Cats won 59-26 on December 19.
