#11 Wildcats Outscore Royce City 59-30

The Wildcats’ basketball team, ranked #11 in Class 5A, once again played solid defense to defeat an opponent. The Wildcats outscored Royse City, 59-30 at Royse City Friday night. It was the Wildcats final non-district game as district play gets started next week.

Friday the Wildcats only allowed the Bulldogs single digit scoring in each quarter. Wildcats Coach Clark Cipoletta said the defense did a great job making every Royse City shot as difficult as possible. The Wildcats led 12-6 after one quarter and 23-15 at the half. Royse City closed to within five points early in the third quarter only trailing 23-18. The Wildcats scored seven straight points to take the lead back up to 12 and they were never threatened after that. In fact after the five point lead, the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 36-12.

Once again, all thirteen Wildcats played. Eleven of them scored points. Michael Jefferson led the Wildcats with 11 points including one three pointer. Keaston Willis and Godsgift Ezedinma both scored 10 points. Willis hit two three-pointers. Dedric Godbolt had 5 points including one three-point basket. Victor Iwuakor, Day Day Hall and Iverson Wade all had four points. Bryson Lynn, Xavier Cork and Grayson McClure all had three points. Lynn and McClure’s basket was a three-pointer. I’vyn Clayton had 2 points.

The Wildcats improved their season record to 15-1. They have won eight straight games. The Wildcats will open district play at home next Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. against Pine Tree.
