Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions Finish Strong Saturday in Tournament Play

The Saltillo Lions had a strong final day at a Miller Grove tournament Saturday picking up wins against Trenton and the Sulphur Springs JV. The Lions dominated Trenton 81-15 and outscored them in every quarter. Walker McGill led the Lions with 18 points, Trevor Moore had 16, Mathew Gurley and Branson McGill had 13 each, Chris Boekhorst had 10, Lyle Bench 8, Levi Hoover 6 and Ryan Prewitt 3. The Lions also topped the Sulphur Springs JV, 62-49. The Lions led 31-26 at the half and then pulled away in the second half. Walker McGill had 21 points, Trevor Moore and Lyle Bench had 10 points each, Mathew Gurley had 9, Chris Boekhorst 8 and Branson McGill 4. The Lions’ season record is now 5-8. The Lions play CHESS at home Tuesday night.

The Saltillo Lady Lions also picked up a win Saturday at the Winnsboro Hoopfest defeating Richardson J.J. Pearce, 29-16. Madison Simmons had 14 points to lead the Lady Lions. Tori Mobley had 6 points, Christi Gurley had 5, and Anna Reeder and Maddie Smith had 2 points each. The Lady Lions are now 4-11 for the season. The Lady Lions also host CHESS Tuesday night.
