Bobbie Young Griffith of Winnsboro

Bobbie Griffith, age 86 of Winnsboro, passed away on Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 in Winnsboro. She was born on February 18th, 1931 in Winnsboro to Howard Young and Teddie (Turner)Young. She was raised in Winnsboro, played basketball at Winnsboro High in 1946-48 and loved being a Red Raider. She was very creative and crafty and always had a painting, knitting or sewing project in the works. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed mysteries and John Wayne movies. Later in life she enjoyed trail riding and country dancing. While at Whispering Pines, she even started a crochet class. She was sharp and always working on crossword puzzles to keep her mind alert. She lived life on her terms and will be missed. Bobbie was mother to five children and a homemaker until the children were grown and she then worked in Houston as a secretary for MD Anderson Cancer Center until retirement. Upon her return to Winnsboro more than 20 years ago, Bobbie found great enjoyment being back in her hometown and reuniting with family and her Red Raider friends.
She was preceded in death by husband, George W. Denney, two of her children, son, George Wesley Denney and daughter Eileen Denney, her parents and brother Nicky Young.

Surviving family includes, a son, Robert Denney, of Midland, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Coleen and Lonnie Denning, of Pettus, TX; daughter and son-in-law , Kathleen and Mark Van Dahlen, of Winnsboro, TX; also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Sheryl, John, Bryan, Lori, Scotty, Daniel, Sylvia and Lee Ann as well as 14 great grandchildren and one more on the way. Additional family includes, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Ruth Young of Whitehouse, TX; sister, Jill Hill of Sulphur Springs, TX; sister and brother-in-law Tammy and Richard Smith of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Brenda Young of Winnsboro, along with many other relatives and friends.

Bobbie had a tremendous passion towards animals, and a special love for her cat, Caesar and her Dachshund Jake the “Wiener Dog.” In honor of her love for animals, the family requests that memorials be directed to American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, 10:30 am in the Lee Cemetery on Highway 37 S. Winnsboro, TX 75494 with Chaplin David Badders, of Hospice of East Texas officiating.
