Lady Cats’ Volleyball Hosts First Two Games of Regular Season Tuesday

One week after they started, the Lady Cats’ volleyball team will open the regular season Tuesday afternoon. (August 8) The Lady Cats will play North Lamar at 1 p.m. and then Sherman at 5 p.m. Both games are at home in Wildcats Gym. North Lamar and Sherman will play at 3 p.m.

The Lady Cats have had six scrimmage matches to get ready for the season openers. Last year the Lady Cats also opened the season at home against the Pantherettes and the Lady Beatcats. The Lady Cats lost a close five set match to North Lamar and then defeated Sherman. The Lady Cats went on to a second place finish in district, played in the bi-district playoffs against Forney and went 30-12 setting a new school record for victories in a season.

The Lady Cats return eight players from that team. They are Abbi Baier, Anden Hammack, Kaylee Jefferson, Maggie McGlamery, Autumn Tanton, Iamni Taylor, Mieke VanBenthem and Maddie Vickery. Four players have been added to the varsity: N’sya Dugan, Sadie Stroud, Erica VanBenthem and Lexie Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt is expected to replace graduate Tori Moore as the team’s setter.

Lady Cats Coach Justin Maness is in his second year as head coach.
