VFW Post 8560 Hosts July 4th Cookout for Public

Local VFW and Auxiliary officers grilled burgers and hot dogs and invited the public to share the meal with them on July 4, 2017. Post Quartermaster Travis Estes shared the history of the July 4 celebration and encouraged everyone to remember that freedom isn’t free but comes with a high price; the personal sacrifices of individual members of our nation’s military. Post Chaplain Phil Lockwood led the group in prayer and in blessing the meal, which was served in the post’s spacious banquet hall. Auxiliary President Marlene Lockwood and members greeted everyone and served the burgers, hot dogs, sides, cold drinks and dessert. Among visitors was Kendall Scudder, candidate for Texas Senate District 2. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post home in Sulphur Springs is located along Interstate 30 East at 1 Veterans Drive, and has been serving local veterans since 1951.
