Senate Religious Liberty Bill Passes House Committee; Flynn a Sponsor in House

Senate Bill 522 (authored by Senators Birdwell and Perry) passed in the House Committee on State Affairs yesterday. I am proud to sponsor this bill in the House as it promotes religious liberty by allowing county clerks to refuse issuance of a marriage license if their religious beliefs would be compromised. This bill has been a top priority of mine this session, as religious freedom is one of the most fundamental rights for the citizens of Texas. The bill also requires that other county clerks must be available to issue the license so as to not obstruct the religious beliefs or rights of those seeking to get married.
SB 522 made it out of committee in a vote of 8-3, and will be placed on the general calendar promptly.
