Floyd and Martha Payton want to say, “‘Thank You’ for the honor and thanks for the service bestowed on Floyd from the Tira Council and friends in the community.” The former mayor was honored with a reception at the Tira Community Center on Tuesday, September 6th. Regina Payton was visiting her parents and was privileged to attend the reception, also. Brad Payton came for a visit on Sunday afternoon before Labor Day. He had to return home on Tuesday morning. Martha shares, “Floyd has improved a bit, but still has room for more improvement. We thank you for the cards, phone calls and well wishes he has received.”

Meeting for their monthly noon luncheon at Don Lalos’ Restaurant were North Hopkins friends Jo Nell Crowson Willis, Wynelle Lawson Belz, Virginia (Julie) Price Miller, Gale Milligan, Betty Weir and Edna Crowson Perry, all of the Sulphur Springs area. Joining them for the first time was Cathy Mobley Baird of Lone Oak.

The North Hopkins Alumni Homecoming will be coming up before long. It’s scheduled for Saturday, October 8th. All former students and staff are encouraged to attend. The Classes of 1966, 1976, and 1986 will be honored for their 50-, 40-, & 30-year reunion. We’ve been trying to reach out to the students from these classes, and would appreciate you helping us spread the word. The event will begin at 4:30 with bingo, visiting, and registration. A barbecue dinner will be served at 5:30, followed by a program, around 6:00, and then the Monday Night Jam band, which features several former NH students, will provide musical entertainment. Tickets will be sold at the door for $12.50 per person.

New playground equipment has been installed at the Tira Community Center. It will be a nice place for the neighborhood children, and children attending gatherings at the center, to play.
