SSHS/SSMS Cross Country Teams Compete at Lovejoy

The Wildcats’ cross country team finished tenth and the Lady Cats thirteenth at a huge meet at Lucas Lovejoy last Saturday. Cross Country Coach Ross Hicks says about 3700 runners were signed up for the meet. The Wildcats competed against 40 teams in a regular 6A-5A class and the Lady Cats were in a 37 team field.

Peyton Vickery finished in nineteenth place to lead the Wildcats. As usual, sophomore Landon Thornton was just a few seconds behind the Wildcats’ leader. Sophomore Eli Sellers was third among Wildcats. Andrew Escobar was fourth and Ed Ramirez fifth.

For the Lady Cats, they were led by Hannah Dixon followed by Lauren Helm, Gracie Boyer and then freshman Sydney Washburn.

Former local Cross Country Coach Andy Holt showed up to cheer on his former teams.

Coach Hicks says the Middle School Team also was able to compete. He says it was the first cross country experience for many of those runners.

Next the Wildcats and Lady Cats will run at Mt. Pleasant Saturday. The Mt. Pleasant course will host the district meet also on October 19. Coach Hicks say he expects to see many district opponents at Saturday’s meet.
