Identifying Information Found on Body That of Man Wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

In mid-May of this year, Hopkins County Sheriff’s officers obtained a warrant for the arrest of Michael Scott Ross. The charges in the warrant were for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, according to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s office. Ross’ identifying information was found on a mummified-body in a pickup in a grove of trees near a county road just off FM 1870 Tuesday morning.

The body of a white male was found in a 1992 Chevrolet pickup registered to Ross. The pickup was in an Atmos Energy right-of-way. In the wallet found near the body in the pickup was Ross’ drivers license and social security card. A hose running from the tail pipe of the vehicle to the enclosed cab was identified as the source for the toxic gas inhalation found in the autopsy of the body. No fuel remained in the pickup. There was no evidence of trauma to the body according to the autopsy.

Final identity of the body awaits dental records. The medical examiner’s office also awaits a toxicology report.

Along with the warrant for aggravated sexual assault of a child, a Blue Warrant for parole violation had also been issued for Ross, according to the Sheriff’s office.
