Local Memorial Day Event Honored Those Who Gave All to Defend Freedoms

At the Hopkins County Veteran’s Memorial on Celebration Plaza Monday, Memorial Day activities honored the fallen who gave their lives in defense of the freedoms of the United States of America. At 11 a.m. Girl Scouts led in the Pledge of Allegiance, the crowd sang the Star Spangled Banner, the Colors were Presented and a moment of silence honored the fallen. Bagpipes provided the sound of My Country Tiss of Thee and Amazing Grace. KSST’s Enola Gay read “The Things They Carried” honoring those who served to defend American Freedoms. District Judge Eddie Northcutt prayed and spoke briefly. The service ended with a 7-gun three-volley salute and the playing of taps.
