Funeral services for John M. Sharber, age 94, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Johnston officiating. Military Graveside Honors by the Hopkins County Military Coalition will follow at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marco Gregory, Fellipe Guerro, Johnny Ross, Carson, Lee, and Steve Sharber. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Sharber went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
He was born December 27, 1921 in Somerset, TX to John William and Katy Mae Webb Sharber. John was married to Barbara Ruth Pickle for 52 years and she preceded him in death in 2007. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Thereafter, he worked for the FAA for more than 20 years. John was an avid golfer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years, where he directed childrens’s chapel, taught Bible Study of the Radio and TV Bible class.
He is survived by sons, John Wayne and wife, Judy, of Sulphur Springs, Steven and wife, Beverly, of Belleville, Illinois, and Marshall Lee Sharber and wife, Tena of La Grange, KY, two Grandchildren: Shelly Gregory and husband, Marco, and Carson Sharber, and one great grandchild, Eleanor Gregory.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
