Darlene Stanford of Hunt County has a heart for Veterans. She has organized a solemn event to observe the true meaning of Memorial Day, to be held Monday May 30 at 11am on Celebration Plaza. The public is invited to the free event which will include Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic music and readings, lowering and raising of the American flag, recognition of branches of military, and a three-volley salute. At 12 noon, a hamburger and hot dog cookout will be served free to those in attendance.
Along with her staff at Kindred Hospice, she works year-round for veterans causes, including fundraising for Honor Flights to the Washington D.C. Veterans Memorial, and for “Honor a Veteran” events in Northeast Texas. 2016 is her fourth year for a Memorial Day event, her first in Hopkins County.
