J. Jean Rawson

Funeral services for Jean Rawson, 91, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Gene Glaeser and Jerry Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with Bryan Heaps, Mason Rawson, Chad Rawson, Leslee Rawson, Troy Tutle, and David Rawson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Newman Bradford, Brad Bradford, Dwight Alexander, Danny Dickens, and Carolyn Shelton.  Visitation will be on Saturday, November 21, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at West Oaks Funeral Home. He was born May 12, 1924, in Birthright, the son of Roy Lee Rawson and Jewel Nevada Martin Rawson.  Jean married Velma (Short) Moseley on December 22, 1945, in Greenville, Texas.  After serving in the Navy during WWII, he attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, TX, where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. In addition to teaching at Sulphur Springs High School for over 30 years, Jean was a dairyman and businessman. During one period of time, he was teaching school, running a dairy, and with his wife running a farm implement business. Jean was a past Deacon and a longtime member of League Street Church of Christ.

Jean is survived by his wife Velma of 69 years and 11 months; he is also survived by sons, Tommy Rawson and wife Carolyn, Michael Rawson and wife Mary Ann all of Sulphur Springs, daughter, Judy Heaps and husband Stan of Sunnyvale, grandchildren, Amy Tutle and husband Troy of Sunnyvale, Bryan Heaps and wife Katie of Roscoe, Chad Rawson and wife Susan, Leslee and wife Daci, Mallory Rawson all of Sulphur Springs, and Mason Rawson of Brashear, 16 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Lynda Hager and husband Bill of Sulphur Springs, several nieces, and nephews, caregivers who have become like family are Christon Dabney, Jessica Reynolds, Michelle Williams, Lucy Hall.

Preceding Jean in death are his parents, sister, Fay Maurice Brady, and brothers, R.L. Rawson, E.W. Rawson, and Robert Rawson.
