The hot summer months seem to bring out the auto burglars in Sulphur Springs. Police Department Patrol Captain Jason Ricketson doesn’t want you to become a statistic this summer.

Ricketson said auto burglaries were occurring at a rate of two per week. The primary reason for the burglary is that people are leaving their cars unlocked with valuables in plain view for thieves to see. He advises that one remove valuables such as GPS, bags, and cell phones especially at night. Breaking windows in autos often draws attention to the event. Ricketson says be sure to lock your auto.
