SSHS Rhapsody Acapella Auditions

Sulphur Springs High School Choir Director Elizabeth Crutcher is having student auditions for a new Rhapsody Acapella group of about ten student singers. Rhapsody Acapella will be a pop group available for bookings and featured at choir concerts. Auditions will take place March 4-6, and Rhapsody Acapella will be a new addition to the school curriculum next year.

“There has been enough interest in choir that next year administration is willing to put another choir on the schedule, which is very exciting,” Crutcher said. “Auditions are going to be after school and there are sign-up sheets on the choir room door.”

This is the first year that SSHS will have a Rhapsody Acapella. The new choir will be included in the curriculum as a course, joining SSHS’s current three choirs.

“In choir we cover all sorts of genres, but I was looking for something fun and that would spark interest with the students that expose them to the world of pop music,” Crutcher said. “Any sounds that you hear from the [Rhapsody] choir will be purely human made voices. Things like ‘Pentatonix’ and what you would see in ‘Pitch Perfect’.”

The Rhapsody Acapella has already sparked among students both in and outside of the existing choirs. According to Crutcher, the goal of the new choir is to attract fine-arts students who wish to enhance their singing experience and to get the new choir involved in various extracurricular activities, much like the current choirs.

“They will be the ambassadors for the choir program,” Crutcher said. “So they’re going to be the people who travel and perform at things like the Veteran’s Day program on the Square, or sing at the football games, they’ll combine with Wildcat Corral to go to UIL in the spring. They will really be the face of the choir program.”
