WORK BEGINS JAN. 30 ON FM 71 IN FRANKLIN COUNTY

PARIS – Motorists who travel on FM 71 in Franklin County from State Highway 37 to the Titus County line should pay extra attention to road conditions and watch for work crews beginning Jan. 30.

That is the date for contractor AK Gillis Inc. to begin rehabilitating this roadway in accordance with a recent road improvement contract. After meeting with the contractor, TxDOT officials granted 198 days to complete this project at a cost of more than $3 million.

The contractor will widen and reconstruct the subgrade of the roadway; add new base to the roadway bed and apply a cement treatment; reconstruct the roadway surface; extend and safety treat drainage structures; perform a two-course surface treatment and reinstall pavement markings. The work should be completed by September 2015, TxDOT officials said.

Work crews will begin setting barricades and construction signs on Jan. 30. Motorists traveling in this area may encounter temporary lane closures while the contractor performs spot base repairs and blade patching. Drivers are encouraged to obey all traffic controls that they encounter. Flaggers will be working to alert drivers to road conditions and guide travelers through the area safely.
