Movie Theater Changes Name

Trans Texas Theaters, that is the new name for the movie theater in Sulphur Springs. Formerly a member of the Starplex theater chain, the local theater actually changed ownership six years ago, according to Krista Lloyd, manager of the local theater. The local theater is the first to undergo a name change and is the first link in what the current owners plan to be a chain of theaters.

When J C Mitchell retired from the group owning Starplex, he wanted to keep theaters in small towns. Starplex, according to Lloyd, is moving to own only theaters larger than the local movie house. Mitchell is joined by Ken Maynard and Bill Knight, in ownership. The trio has 100 years of movie theater experience between them as they begin development of a new chain for small-town locations. All three live in smaller suburbs in the Dallas metroplex.

Patrons can continue to access current movies and times by going to the Starplex website or may access the information at the still-in-development Trans Texas Theaters site. All movie passes, gift cards, etc for the local theater will remain good even though the name on the card or pass may be Starplex instead of Trans Texas.
