Tira News 11/5/14 by Jan Vaughn

Wesley and Yvonne Weir met Dakota Weir at Pathway Church of God, for their fall party last Wednesday. They had a bounce house and a train and several games. Yvonne comments, “Wesley had a wonderful time!” Wesley also got to go to the carnival in Sulphur Springs and at North Hopkins School, so he really celebrated Halloween.

Powell Vickery and Sherry Smiddy attended the North Hopkins Alumni homecoming on Saturday night. Sherry says, “It was fun seeing some old friends and enjoying Bingo and BBQ.” She adds, “Sunday morning the Cross Spur Cowboy Church celebrated their 5th anniversary. It was a moving service. They had a pot-luck dinner, along with a cake, to celebrate the occasion. The church also had a Trunk or Treat last Wednesday, with about 150 people attending. The kids enjoyed bobbing for apples, limbo, and wrapping up Mike Eason, Chanse Fite, Michael Hrabal and Brian Logan as ‘Mummys/Dummys’ Hot Dogs were served and everyone had a great time.”

Regina Payton visited with her parents, Floyd and Martha Payton, on Thursday evening through Sunday morning. Martha shared, “We visited my sister Ann Sullivan in Longview on Saturday and had lunch at the Olive Garden. It’s always a beautiful drive, with the sweet gum trees just beginning to get their fall colors, lots of wild flowers, and grass still very green. That area has received more rain than north Texas.”

Yvonne Weir and Brenda Allen invited me to go out for a late birthday lunch in Sulphur Springs recently. We enjoyed the food and visit.

Chip and I attended the North Hopkins Alumni Homecoming on Saturday night. We had a small, but good group. Only two of the eleven graduates of The Class of 1964 were in attendance. Marvin Weir and Billy Gene Scott were the honored guests. The group voted to change the homecoming to the second Saturday in October next year, in hopes of having a larger attendance. Mark your calendar for the event.
