Fifth Annual Photo Walk Announces Winners, Cell Phone Entry Takes Top Honors, By Cindy Roller Editor

This year’s top photo exemplifies how being a good photographer is not just about having the most expensive equipment, but the eye for the art of photography.

It was a difficult decision for the judges but the Sulphur Springs Worldwide Photo Walk is announcing the winners of the fifth annual event sponsored by the Sulphur Springs Downtown Business Alliance.

Taking the First Place ribbon was fifth-year participant photographer Malorie Padron of Sulphur Springs with her entry highlighting the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial and America flag flown over Celebration Plaza. Padron said she usually uses her Canon EOS 35mm camera but this year she used her cell phone camera.

This year’s co-leaders were Sulphur Springs News-Telegram Photographer Jon Lance and Cooper Review Editor Cindy Roller. Commemorating the fifth year event leaders and over 40 participants were treated to a tour of the historic 100 year old building newly renovated as Sulphur Springs City Hall by Community Development Director Shane Shepard.

“We enjoyed exploring City Hall from top to bottom and all of its history. It was fun connecting with so many photographers,” said Shane Shepard, impressed with the event’s attendance.

Participants also descended on the Fall Festival Battle of the Bands at Muddy Jake’s Backyard as paparazzi for the talented musical artists on that same evening.

“We had a terrific turnout and enjoyed an evening interacting with folks with so many similar photography interests,” agreed Lance and Roller, in appreciation of participants. “We are already looking forward to our next adventure downtown in 2015.”
