Thursday, October 23, 2014, Guaranty Bank & Trust – The Health Care Foundation board of directors are thrilled to announce the establishment of the “Leaving a Legacy” endowment fund. A check presentation will be made Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Guaranty Bank & Trust. The $400,000 presented to Guaranty Bank & Trust Wealth Management group represents six years of donations received and reserved from the success of the Lights of Life Campaign and Gala.

The Health Care Foundation was formed in 1996. Governed by an independent Board of Directors, the Foundation was formed to assist Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in providing quality and compassionate healthcare services to the people served. The funds raised are used to provide support for medical equipment, projects, and programs at Memorial Hospital. The community has been very generous and supportive with their donations to the Health Care Foundation, specifically the Lights of Life campaign and gala.
Originally the Health Care Foundation hosted the annual Lights of Life tree lighting celebration. Generous donors made $25 donations in “honor or memory” of someone special and that donation was represented by a light on the Memorial Hospital Christmas tree. Through those donations, the Foundation was able to contribute over $116,000 to support the programs and projects at Memorial Hospital.

Then in 2006 the Health Care Foundation began hosting the Lights of Life gala which has become the largest annual fundraiser for the Foundation. The generosity of the community has allowed the Foundation to raise over $1.5 million since that first gala in 2006. Foundation gifts
to Memorial Hospital have helped to build The Gardens at Memorial, the Children’s Therapy Gardens, purchase a new digital mammography machine, a bone density machine, new ICU beds and other much needed equipment.

Due to the continued support from the community, in 2008 the Foundation set a five year long range goal for growth and development. The goal was to reserve $250,000 of the funds raised through the Lights of Life campaign and gala. That goal was reached in 2013. With the $250,000 the Foundation board established CD accounts at Alliance Bank, City National Bank and Guaranty Bank & Trust. “The local banks have been wonderful partners and they have helped us increase our funds”, said Bob Weaver, Foundation Board Chair. “As a board we strive to be good stewards of the funds the community has generously given. We are excited to announce that we now are in the financial position, to open a trust account with the Guaranty Bank & Trust Wealth Management team”. This is a huge accomplishment for the Foundation and one we are very proud to share with the community”, continue Weaver.

Guaranty Bank & Trust Wealth Management consist of experienced professionals who will work closely with the Foundation to optimize the best financial benefits and returns on our investments. “We feel confident that Mick Trusty, Senior Vice President & Trust Officer, and his team in the Wealth Management department will manage and invest our money wisely so that we can receive maximum return on our investments. Mick has been a contributor, supporter and attendee of the Lights of Life Campaign and Gala since 2006. He definitely has a passion and personal interest in the efforts of the Foundation and our desire to be good stewards of the donor’s money. We know Mick ‘s expertise and guidance will be a huge benefit to the Foundation” continued Weaver.

“We are thrilled to establish the “Leaving a Legacy” endowment fund with Guaranty Bank & Trust Wealth Management team” stated Jackie Thornton, Foundation Director. “We have been blessed by generous donations and support from the community and now we have a team who will manage that money and help it to grow. We are blessed to live in a giving community like Hopkins County,” continued Thornton.
