Miller Grove News 10/14/14 by Brandon Darrow

This week’s cold front is surely here! Makes me hungry for some of my favorite cold weather food – stew and chili!

My condolences to three families with Miller Grove connections this week who have had loved ones that passed. Claire Moseley, Edward Clark, and Gary McLarry are three souls that have left this world since my last writing.

Claire Alma (Thibault) Moseley was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Louis and Rose Alma Thibault. She married Michael Deldan Moseley on Aug. 6, 1955, in Biloxi, Mississippi. They met while serving in the US Air Force. Mr. Moseley descended from the Burns family of Miller Grove. His parents were Alvin and Mary Jim (Burns) Moseley. Mr. Moseley preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Moseley was retired from being a school nurse and resided in Sherman, Texas where she passed on Oct. 7. Mrs. Moseley leaves four children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 am on Oct. 9, at Church of the Resurrection in Sherman. Graveside services were concluded in Miller Grove Cemetery. Waldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral arrangements for Clarence Edward Clark of Miller Grove are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Services will be held by Bro. Nick Lamb and Rev. Jim Moore. Interment will follow in Miller Grove Cemetery. Edward Clark was born March 23, 1938, in Hopkins County, the son of Clarence Frank Clark and Opal Faye (Walker) Clark. Edward attended Miller Grove School and was valedictorian of his graduating class (1956). He married Verta Mae Gentry on May 30, 1959 in Commerce. She was a teacher in the Miller Grove and Cumby school systems and passed away on Feb. 20, 2002. After Verta’s passing Edward married Peggy Cook on June 28, 2003, in Cumby. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Julie Hauser and Bridgette Muncey, and several grandchildren. Throughout his life, Edward served in the US Army reserves, worked at E-Systems of Greenville as a mechanical design engineer for 33 years, and served on various local boards. I am privileged to say that I was able to serve as a trustee for Miller Grove Cemetery along-side Edward. I always enjoyed talking to him. He was never negative or condescending to anyone. He always made you feel welcome and that he genuinely cared about you. My prayers go out to his family.

Gary McLarry is another person with a Miller Grove connection that passed this week. I know many people in Hopkins County knew Lt. McLarry of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s department. He passed on Oct. 12 with funeral arrangements being conducted by West Oaks Funeral Home. Gary was our security guard from time-to-time at home basketball games for Miller Grove. For the last several months he has fought a courageous battle. He was a diabetic and needed a kidney transplant. My prayers are with the McLarry family this week as well.

Happy Birthday this week to Don Petty & Johnny Lennon on Oct. 13, Sherry (Ragan) Dial on Oct. 15, and Gary McGowan on Oct. 17. Happy 17th Anniversary to my cousins, Justin and Caryn (Lewis) Darrow, on Oct. 18.
