Lucas - Cropped PicFuneral Services for Weldon Lucas, age 95 of Sulphur Springs, will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Blackmon and Rev. Steve Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Mahoney Cemetery with Randal Voss, Eric Voss, J. W. Corley, Jerry Voss, Carmack Blackmon and C.R. McPherson, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Crusaders Class. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Mr. Lucas passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at his residence. He was born on August 23, 1919 in Sulphur Springs the son of George Vines and Zadah Lillian Thrower Lucas. He married Muriel Blackmon on July 5, 1941 in Merit, TX. He was raised in Mahoney and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1938.  After marrying Muriel in 1941, they moved to Orange, TX where he was employed at the ship yards, building destroyer escorts during World War II.  After the war, he was employed at Entex until he retired in 1984 and returned to Sulphur Springs.

Survivors include: his wife of 73 years; daughter, Kati Voss and husband, Jerry of Dike; son, Sim Lucas and wife, Betty of Iola, TX; grandchildren, Tanya Voss, Randal Voss and wife, Pam, Eric Voss and wife Amy, Terry Lucas and wife, Carol, Jamie Lucas, Jay Lucas and wife, Kimber; great-grandchildren, Anna Voss, Avery Voss, Ashlyn Voss, Sara Voss, Mason Voss, Cade Voss, Dustin Lucas, Jake Lucas, Jennifer Lucas, Jessica Lucas, Daniel Lucas, Brock Lucas and Kyle Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Weldon Gene Lucas, one sister, Ora Voss Durkee and two brothers, Marshall Voss and Hansel Voss.
