Howard Norman Garrett

Mr GarrettHoward Norman Garrett, 93, of Emory, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014. Funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at County Line Baptist Church with Bro. Wayne Darty officiating, and music directed by Woody Garmon. Interment will follow in Clifton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, August 26, 2014, 6-8 PM at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Garrett was born on September 21, 1920, in Point, to John William “Bill” and Bedie Lennon Garrett. He married Cornelia Jane Lyles on March 31, 1961, in Dallas.

His early education was at County Line School. He graduated from Commerce High School and then East Texas State University. He received a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University and did further graduate work at the University of Houston. He taught and was in school administration in Diboll and Point.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II. He served alongside of his brother David, now deceased, in the Philippines.

In Dallas he worked for Mutual of Wausau Insurance Company where he was Salesman of the Year more than once. He worked many years in the cattle business here in Emory.

He was a member of County Line Baptist Church. Mr. Garrett was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years at First Baptist Church in Dallas before moving to Emory. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #180, Cumby, Texas.

He was a member of the Rains County Chamber of Commerce. He had special interests in the Rains County Farmers Market and Eagle Fest. He was a mentor to many while he supervised the Community Service Program in Rains County.
Survivors include:
Wife: Cornelia Jane Garrett of Emory

Nephews: Dave L. Garrett, and wife, Janie, of Coppell and Bill Garrett, and wife, K, of Point

Niece: Mary Lisa Garrett Vinson of Plano

Numerous other loving family and friends
