Stew Fest 2014

meredith09The Hopkins County Fall Festival and the World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest will be reunited for “Stew Fest 2014” in the cool weather in October. Both Boards for these organizations have agreed that the two events complement each other so well, that they need to be on the same weekend.

It is our desire to create an incredible experience for visitors to Sulphur Springs. While the stew contest and the fall festival–as standalone events brought tons of people to our community–we are certain that by having the two on the same weekend it will make this event even more spectacular.

The stew contest will remain on the grounds of Buford Park as it has been for the past several years while the Fall Festival will still host their events on the Civic Center & High School grounds.

The Fall Festival will begin their celebration of the 45th Annual Fall Festival with the golf tournament at the Sulphur Springs Country Club on Monday, October 13th. The Parade will then be on Saturday, October 18th. The remainder of the activities will kick off with Senior Citizens Day at the Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday, the carnival on Wednesday, and then the Arts & Crafts, Commercial Exhibits will set up Thursday evening and there will be a BMX exhibition at the skate park Thursday evening. Booths and All Exhibits will open Friday morning at 9am! It is going to be a fantastic fall festival and you will not want to miss ANY of it! On the grounds of the Civic Center & SS High School will be the Arts & Crafts Show, Household Arts Show, Commercial Exhibits, BMX Exhibition Shows, Magic Show, Yummy Food Vendors and MUCH More. The Kids Zone, filled with bounce houses, petting zoo, and much more will be in the Horse Pavilion. Then on Friday and Saturday evenings, please make plans to enjoy fabulous music with indoor concerts. Friday will be Cody Johnson and Tyler & the Tribe with gates opening at 6:00, music beginning at 7:15. Then on Saturday, you won’t want to miss Whiskey Myers featuring Johnny Cooper. That show will feature the opening act of…the winner of the Battle of the Bands.

The Stew Contest will take place Saturday morning, October 25th with stew being served at 10:45am. We encourage everyone to come out early to walk around the walking path of Buford Park to see the over 150 uniquely decorated stew sites and to visit with old friends & family. It is still just $5 for all-you-can-eat stew. The winners of the stew contest will be announced around 12:45! As soon as the winners are announced and trophies awarded, we will all “waddle” over to the creek to watch the Duck Race!!! Then we can enjoy the many activities of the Fall Festival.

We hope that everyone is as excited as we are about the reuniting of these two great events. In fact, we want to make sure that everyone can participate in all activities, so we will be running the trolleys with several stops. 1) Skate park area 2) the front entrance of the high school (so guests may walk up the sidewalk to the civic center) 3) the football stadium parking lot 4) the main entrance to Kids Kingdom. We are certain that this will make it easier for people to maneuver between the two locations. The trolleys will begin running around 8:15 on Saturday morning and will run until approximately 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce and the Hopkins County Fall Festival Board are committed to creating a WONDERFUL weekend for the many guests that will attend! We hope you will join us for Stew Fest 2014!!!! For more information on Stew Fest 2014, please call the Chamber of Commerce at
