The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hopkins County Jail is scheduled for Monday, August 11, at noon. Twelve to fifteen months of construction will follow. Prior to the ceremony, the Hopkins County Commissioners Court is expected to be involved in letting of bids for sub-contractors with their architects and construction manager-at-risk. County Judge Robert Newsom says the jail appears to be below budget. The jail project will cause a 6-cent increase in the tax rate for the proposed county budget.
