Tira News 07/09/14
The Tira Homecoming was held on Sunday, July 6th. Our gathering was smaller than normal and we missed those who couldn’t attend. Martha Payton shares, “We thank those that sent their donations by mail, plus it is always heart warming to read your notes and letters.” She reports that the regular contributions were $4,444.00 and a special offering, toward clearing more land for plots in the future, totaled $1,681.00. The church and cemetery grounds looked beautiful, thanks to the hard work of Floyd Lawson and Rick Petty. Leroy Reaves served as the Master of Ceremonies for the program and Floyd Payton, Cemetery Board President, led the business meeting. Mick Petty and Mary Beth Moore were elected to the cemetery committee. Danna Lewis and her daughter, Eden, entertained and inspired the group with their vocal talents. Families of those who were buried in the Tira Cemetery during the past year were recognized and given a rose. Several in the congregation shared memories of time spent in the Tira community.
Following the program, everyone enjoyed a good lunch and visiting around the picnic tables. Thankfully the weather was not as hot as most years. Mark your calendars for the first Sunday in July next year.
Floyd and Martha had most of their family in for the homecoming. Regina Payton from Victoria came on Thursday evening. Eric Payton, their grandson from San Diego, came on Saturday, along with his mother, Virginia Payton. Martha says, “We enjoyed dinner together at Baxter’s White Oak on Saturday.” Eric and Virginia visited until after lunch on Monday before returning to Keller. Brad was unable to attend due to work schedule.
We want to welcome Kim and Lee Beck to the Tira Community! Kim works at City National Bank – Mockingbird branch – and Lee works as a Purchase Manager for Pinnacle Manufacturing, Inc. – North plant in Sulphur Springs. They have four kids – Derek, Jason, Jackson, and Maddie. Three of them are currently in college and Derek is married and just discharged from the Army. I appreciate Kim letting me know that they have moved to our community and are loving it!

Yvonne Weir worked on the 4th, but when she got home her friend Malorie was grilling steaks for supper. She reports, “Malorie, Daniel, Desirea, Denise, James, Robert, Wesley and I also enjoyed swimming and fireworks after a wonderful meal.”
Chip and I enjoyed a short get-away for the holiday weekend. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner at Posado’s in Lindale on Thursday evening, and then spent the night in Tyler. On Friday, we did a little hiking at the Mineola Nature Preserve. The have several very nice trails, but we decided to save some for cooler weather. We stayed at Holly Lake Resort on Friday night. Malcolm, Morgan, Kenden, and Jaidyn Joslin and Malcolm’s friend, Tonya, came to meet us and we enjoyed swimming and watching the fireworks over the lake. On Saturday, we attended the funeral of Geraldine (Willis) Howell, Chip’s cousin. Please remember her family in your prayers. We attended the Tira Homecoming on Sunday and enjoyed seeing friends and family.
