Funeral Services for Karen Pickett, age 63 of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church Sulphur Springs – Spence Chapel with Pastor Mark Bryant and Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Memorial Park with Brandon Burks, Keith Bell, Aaron Pickett, Mike Hudson, Mike Ballard and Robert Harkins serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pickett died on Monday, July 28, 2014 at her residence. She retired from Sulphur Springs ISD where she worked as a cafeteria work for Lamar Elementary.
She was born on November 14, 1950, the daughter of Simon Green and Betty Lou Kelley Thompson in Dallas, TX. She married Billy Jack Pickett on June 29, 1974 in Sulphur Springs, TX. He survives.
Other survivors include: daughters, Letitia Hughes and Amy Burks and husband, Brandon all of Sulphur Springs; sisters, Lyn Harkins of Columbia, South Carolina and Judy Mills of Winnsboro; brother, Richard Thompson of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Scott and Robert King, Emma and Annette Hughes, Brenda and Madeline Burks and Raylene Burks
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David Lee Pickett.
Memorials may be made to Youth Choir Ministries for First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs or First Baptist Church Mt. Vernon.
