Funeral Services for Essie Grimes, age 95 of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Tapp Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Wells officiating. Interment will follow at City Cemetery. No formal visitation will be held.
Mrs. Grimes passed away peacefully Thursday July 24, 2014, at Rock Creek Health and Rehab in Sulphur Springs. She was born the daughter of Frank and Myrtle Gee on September 8, 1918 in Honey Grove, TX. She married Arthur Grimes on September 28, 1935 in Vernon, TX.
Essie loved working with flowers and owned the Rose Shop Florist in Levelland, TX before she and husband Arthur moved to Sulphur Springs, where they lived for 52 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Standard Club.
Some of her favorite pastimes included flower designing, gardening, cooking and RV-ing with church friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years; son, Glenn Grimes, eleven brothers and sisters and one granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Goin of Mineola, TX; son, Jerry Grimes of Jemison, AL; grandchildren, Cari Johnson, Barry Hale, Teri Stripling, Robin Grimes, Shauna Grimes, Jynifer Miques and Jana Lavengne; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff at Rock Creek Health and Rehab Center along with Legacy Hospice.
