Those who have yet to pay Sulphur Springs ISD taxes this year took a big financial hit on July 1 as delinquent accounts went to a collection attorney. School District Tax Collector Sandra Gibby said those accounts now reflect 41.6% in penalties, interest and attorney’s fees on top of the base tax due. Ms. Gibby said pressure from the attorney usually resulted in increased payments. 96.26% of taxpayers have already paid their taxes this year. The yearly collection average is around 97%.
