Jury Duty Summons Response On The Decline

Jury duty. That invitation to what some call a civic duty and others disdain as an inconvenience. Response to jury summons is on the decline across the state as well as locally. District 8 Judge Eddie Northcut is taking action to encourage a better result. Northcut says jury duty is more than a civic duty, it is a legal obligation. He intends to conduct show cause hearings for those 40 or so who missed a recent jury call. Fines for failing to appear could begin at $250, according to Judge Northcut.
