A Slice of Americana

It was another slice of Americana as Sulphur Springs’ Celebration Plaza was the site of a rousing 23rd annual Independence Day Celebration Concert and Fireworks Spectacular Saturday night before a large gathering. The program featured a mix of patriotic and historical tunes, Sousa marches, popular culture such as Star Trek, a salute to big bands and the armed forces salute to Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Air Force and Navy with veterans from those branches standing. Special vocalist was Michael Rorex, Professor of Voice at North Western State University in Louisiana. As God Bless America was ending, fire works began as the Northeast Texas Symphony played Stars and Stripes Forever and the Washington Post March.
