The 7-8 year old Hopkins County Dixie Darlins won the State Tournament and will be going to Louisiana for the World Series. In the State Tournament in Crosby, the Darlins defeated Tri-Cities from the Lufkin area and Jacksonville before losing to Liberty. However the Darlins rallied to down Crosby and then defeat Liberty twice, 11-9 on Sunday night and 8-4 on Monday night. The Darlins are now headed for Alexandria, Louisiana where they’ll be one of 12 teams vying for the Dixie Darlin World Series. The Hopkins County Darlins open against North Carolina on August 2. The local Darlins are coached by Laura Kosuv-Doughtie, Kevin Dixon and Amy Tanton. Team supporter Chris Voorhees says anyone that would like to help the team financially can contact Don Sapaugh at City National Bank at (903) 885-5432. Voorhees says the team will also be doing bake sales and a raffle to defray their travel costs.
