Sometimes bills from the Texas Legislature have unintended consequences. That appears to be the case after a bill was passed during the legislative session that attempted to control what files computer technicians could look at when working on a computer. However the bill went further and required that computer technicians become private investigators to check out computer files. Local computer technician Caz Kivell told KSST’s Bill Bradford that the bill would require him to work under an investigator for three year to become licensed. Kivell said, if enforced, no one would be able to repair a computer for the next three years except investigators. The legislature is expected to address this problem when they meet again.
