Local Post Office Letter Carrier Kyle Verner calls this year’s Postal Food Drive the best one yet. Carriers collected a total of 14,654 pounds of food on their routes in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County Saturday. Verner says he was worried about the drive because of the economy but he says local people donated like never before. The food benefits the Northeast Texas Food Bank. Food Bank Manager Denise McCarty was impressed by the variety of the donations. She says the local people have never let the food bank down. Now Ms. McCarty says she needs volunteers to process all of the food in her warehouse.
