Hopkins County Residents Concerned with Sludge Get an Update From Their Steering Committee : KSSTRadio.com

sludge-meeting
About 70 citizens concerned about future sludge applications in Hopkins County gathered at the Hopkins County Courthouse again Monday night. Those present heard what their steering committee has been up to since their formation on April 14. Steering committee chairman Bob Williams told those present he had the opportunity to meet with the landowner of the site where the new sludge application will take place if approved by the TCEQ and with Terra Resources who will do the sludge application. Williams said he told the landowner he wasn’t being very neighborly. The steering committee now has a bank account at City National Bank for donations. They also have a web site at www.hopkinscountyepc.org. Williams also expressed concern about whether TCEQ is up to the task of enforcing sludge sites. He encouraged those present to write letters and raise Cain. The steering committee is working on having a consultation with an attorney from the Texas Association of Counties who advises the Commissioners Court. Hiring an attorney is still a possibility for the group.
