Hard Work by Victim’s Mother Delays Man’s Parole

parole-on-hold
Just a day or two ago, Elaine Wells learned that a man in prison for participating in a brutal baseball bat attack on her son, would be paroled Tuesday. She had been leading opposition to the parole of Juan Gonzales Garcia and she got busy again. Her numerous phone calls and media coverage of her plight have apparently borne fruit as late Monday the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles placed the parole on hold so that they could study numerous letters written to them but that somehow never came to their attention. District Attorney Martin Braddy says Ms. Wells was also successful in getting the attention of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. When Garcia is eventually paroled, ICE plans to immediately deport him. Braddy says the situation is part of a bigger problem: the overcrowded prisons in Texas.
