More Rain in Monday Forecast
March 30, 2008 |
Much of Sullphur Springs and Hoopkins County was a swamp Sunday (30 March) after two inches or more of rain fell from multiple thunderstorms that rolled across the area on back-to-back nights. No dollar figure was immediately available for car and roof damages caused by large lpre-dawn hail that fell in the North and West parts of Sulphur Springs Saturday morning.
Kelly Fletcher, Woodbridge Addition, said she put a hail stone that measured two and a half inches long in her freezer. The rain fell on an already-saturated ground. After getting off to a slow start, an unofficial 8 and a half inches of rain in March has run the annual total measured at KSST to over 15 inches. Thats about 4 and a half inches above normal. The Natioal Weather Service issued 10 separate thunderstorm warnings for Hopkins County Saturday Night and through 8 am Sunday morning, 30 March. The forecast was calling for an 80% chance of more rain Monday.
