Biggest Hopkins County Democratic Convention Ever.
March 30, 2008 |
The largest Hopkins County Democratic Party Convention in history overflowed the Middle School parking lot and came close to filling the cafeteria Saturday Morning. The lines extending out into the rain as delegates waited to sign in at the separate Clinton and Obama tables.
County Chairman Bill Brannon told the delegates that the large number of participants in precinct and county conventions says much for the future of the Democratic Party in Texas but he told them that there will come a time when they must take off their Hillary and Obama badges and come together as Democrats.
He confidently said “We are going to reelect our State Representative and we’re going to redraw the Congressional lines and get our Congressional district back.Â
In a report to KSST Sunday Morning, Brannon said about 220 people showed up. 151 of the 158 chosen delegates signed in. Hopkins County will have 13 delegates at the State Convention, 7 for Clinton and 6 for Obama. According to Brannon, the resolutions they passed will express extreme concern over affordable and available health care. They will express concern over how we will resolve the conflict in Iraq and when will we be able to bring our troops back home. They will express concern over the use and abuse of eminent domain, as demonstrated by plans for the Trans Texas Corridor.Â
As County Chairman, Brannon will join Hopkins County’s 13 Delegates and 13 Alternates at the Democratic State Convention on the 5th through 7th of June in Austin where they will join some 7,600 others from across Texas.
