Main St. About to Reopen [2:50m]: Play Now | Play in Popup

By the time you hear this, the intersection of Davis and Main Streets and the one block of Main between Davis and the square may be reopened for traffic. As of Thursday morning, only asphalting of the areas was still to be done. After Main Street was blocked off on January 14, work on Main went rapidly. Problems began to occur when city crews started to work on the Davis and Main intersection. City Manager Marc Maxwell says an old sewer line and an old water line were discovered that they did not know about. They now have been tied into other lines or abandoned. Maxwell says next the city will work to take electrical lines on Main Street underground in T-Bone Alley.
Meanwhile, Maxwell says 80% completed construction designs for Main Street are due at the city Friday. The finished engineer designs are due three weeks later. Then the project will go into the bidding process. After that a contractor will begin renovation work.
