School Board Considers Budget : KSSTRadio.com

The Sulphur Springs School Board received a very preliminary first draft of a budget Monday night from its Director of Finance Miki Eddins. It featured a General Operating Fund that showed more revenue than expenditures. Concerning salaries, a top priority according to Superintendent Patsy Bolton, the budget reflects only a step increase for those employees scheduled to get them and a 3% hike for the rest. As a recruiting and retention tool, the district is considering a 457 plan where the district would match a certain percentage of funds employees set aside for a retirement supplement. District employees currently invest in a 403B program on their own with no district contribution. 101 employees currently have 403B’s. An administration panel will be looking at new requests from campuses and will be seeking to prioritize them. After reviewing the document, the board will take up the budget again during part of a regular board meeting on August 13.
