Hospital Board Elects Officers, Ponders Hiring Specialists
May 31, 2007 |
Tim Kelty is the new President of the Board of Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Ralph Preuss is vice-President and Bill Zahn Secretary. The new officers were selected Tuesday evening. Newly elected board members Preuss and Joe Bob Burgin were also given the oath of office.
With the State Legislature not cooperating, the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital board is trying another approach to be able to hire physicians, especially specialists, to come to Sulphur Springs. A bill before the legislature that would have changed the hospital’s enabling legislation to allow this never made it out of committee after the Texas Medical Association opposed it. Hospital Administrator Michael McAndrew says the board now hopes to file paperwork that will declare the hospital a not for profit corporation. This change, if approved, will allow the hospital to hire physicians.
