Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell recently read the Dallas Morning News with interest as they proclaimed the drought to be over. He says maybe for them but not for us. Cooper Lake, the city’s main source of drinking water, remains about 10 feet under capacity. Maxwell was glad to find out that Lake Lavon is one foot over capacity and rising. That means the Metroplex interests that use Cooper Lake and Lavon won’t need the Northeast Texas lake to fill Lavon. For a while, the city of Sulphur Springs will be the only one pumping water from Cooper Lake. Maxwell says despite Cooper Lake’s low level, we are better off than we were one year ago because at that time Lake Lavon was also terribly low.
